Outdoor Classroom Day!

Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. On Outdoor Classroom Day itself, which has two dates each year (May 23 and Nov 7) that educators, parents and caregivers can celebrate with a special day outdoors.

Children are spending less time outdoors than ever before and this is affecting their health, well-being and development. Time outdoors – on Outdoor Classroom Day and every day – will make children happier and healthier, as well as equipping them with the skills they need for life.

Join the Movement!

By getting involved in the days of action, you help send a message to the world that time outdoors every day is important for every child. You also help us achieve these longer-term shared goals:

1. Outdoor learning is part of every school day

2. A consistent minimum target for recess / playtime

3. Schools to advocate for more time outdoors

About the Activity

In this pop-up class, we'll learn about and honor one of our planet's most important creatures--bees! With World Bee Day being on May 20th, this will be a wonderful chance to inspire families to take their kids' learning outside.  For the activity, kids will be invited to take on the perspective of hardworking bees as they collect “nectar” from pretend flowers and transport it back to the hive. As they play, kids will explore what we can do to care for bees and what they might need to thrive to do their important work.

When: Thursday, May 23rd, at 10am

Where: Crestwood Park, Cottonwood Heights

Cost: FREE or a suggested donation of $10

Who: Activity will be geared for children ages 1-8, with a  parent or trusted caregiver—younger and older children are encouraged to join, too!

What To Bring: Please be sure that anyone who is attending is wearing comfortable/weather appropriate attire, and allows kids to freely explore.

Other Important Details: Bathrooms are located just east of the playground; we will meet rain or shine (as per safety guidelines)
